About us
The company was founded by the present Director’s father Shri Bharatbhai A Patel, way back in 1949. Shri Bharatbhai was a visionary, in that he always accepted challenges at the workplace and in life. He adopted an integrated approach towards the development of any machinery/component/mechanism.
The Etching Press thus got created, when the now world-famous artist Shri Jyoti Bhatt approached him for the manufacturing the equipment. This has now found a place in history as the firm has, since then, supplied the Etching Press to 99% of the Art Institutions and Printmakers in India. To illustrate, Smt. Lalita Lazmi, Mumbai; Banaras Hindu University, Banaras; Nagpur University, Nagpur; Vijaya Fine Arts Society, Gulbarga; Punjabi University, Patiala; Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi; Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal and the list is endless. His creation of the Empty Hard Gelatin capsule plant has no parallels in India, and thus the indigenization concept of the firm came into being.

TESTIMONIAL
After almost a year of discussions with Mihir, I purchased an Etching Press from Ravi Engineering Works. Mihir was extremely helpful, prompt and professional and I had a great experience buying the press. I’m extremely happy with the performance of the press and look forward to a long relationship with Ravi Engineering Works. They are undoubtedly the pioneers and market leaders in manufacturing and supplying high quality Printmaking products.
A well made press! I recommend it.
Very beautifully updated press, light weight and with affordable prices. They are easy to handle. I did my new landscape series on Ravi etching press. Ravi engineering is always available for any printmaking materials. Good service, Mihir’s initiatives for printmaking is remarkable too.
I received the Gujarat State Award in 1973 and that time my teacher joytibhai Bhatt told me , you are so shy and not mixup with others- so after passing the college you will be leave printmaking as per your nature so just buy etching press from award money’. My whole life I took prints on that press which I bought in 1973. I really proud and feel very nice today because I have ravi engineering works etching press.
I purchase Etching Press in 1990-91. This is the best press I have, Just love it!
I came to Ravi Engineering to Repair my Etching press. Mr.Dilipbhai Patel and his son Mihir gave me excellent service. They treated the whole affair like their own with human feelings. I was very impressed and satisfied with them. Love for now for long and standing association in the future.
“I studied printmaking at M.S.University of Baroda between 1950 and 1954. My college had an etching press imported from England. But, its flywheel was broken during transportation. I was very keen to learn Intaglio processes. Students could not use it as it took 15 years to settle its insurance!!
Meanwhile, I had an opportunity of studying Intaglio at Pratt Institute (USA). Where I used a press which was quite different than the various kinds of traditional English and German presses I had seen. I found that more efficient and user-friendly too. So, after returning from the USA, I requested my neighbor and fabricator friend Shri Bharat Kumar Patel to make one press-similar to the one I had used in USA-for me. He made it but, it took almost a year as we were grappling with the design and finding parts and material from junkyards. After making repeated changes and additions the press became perfect for my use. Two famous American Printmakers- Michael Ponce de Lion and Fritz Eichenberg (who is also the author of ‘The Art of the Printmaking’ the best treatise on this subject written till today. Had visited Baroda during the end of the 1960s. Both of them were happily surprised to see this press. Though crude looking and bulky, it then became a prototype for the generations of improvised, lighter, efficient and very elegant presses that have been made at ‘Ravi Engineering Works’. These presses are being used by art colleges and printmakers all over India.
And, now as if a full ‘U-Turn’, these presses are exported to Europe and also to the USA from where I had borrowed the seed!!”
